About the Cottage

A wonderful mix of the traditional Irish cottage with modern touches the cottage provides the perfect backdrop to any family holiday. The wonderfully thick stone walls will wrap you in a comfortable sense of history and belonging that makes you feel right at home from the moment you cross the threshold.

Decorated in a rather eclectic style throughout, the cottage sleeps six comfortably in its three bedrooms.

Walk through the front door into the hall and you’re right away in the centre of the house. To the right is a double bedroom with shuttered windows and an adjoining bedroom where the bunk beds are perfect for kids of all ages.

Upstairs is the cosy attic room that’s surprisingly large. The king size bed boasts the best views of the bay and with four chests of drawers and a wardrobe there’s lots of storage space.

Back downstairs and into the lounge where you’ll find the wood burning stove, two chesterfield suites and a huge cinema screen complete with cinema sound that you can enjoy movie nights in on.

Step through into the kitchen and enjoy the recently renovated space where a half door leads into the garden and a newly discovered window takes on the job of the wine cellar.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Had everything we needed for our stay, the hot tub is excellent and was ready to use as soon as we arrived. Lovely location and short drive to local areas. Recommend Ned’s a short drive away for lovely bakes. Projector was a big hit with our daughter.

We had a wonderful comfortable stay as a large family. The hot tub and sauna so clean and new. Would stay again and highly recommend. The host Shane was very helpful and even installed a new air fryer and coffee machine.

Perfect family break. Couldn't fault our stay. The hot tub was spotless and ready to use, the bed linen, towels and robes were plentiful, high quality and comfortable. The house is exactly as shown in the pictures with an added bonus of a covered hot tub and gorgeous outdoor lights (much needed in Donegals precarious weather). Our host was proactive, checking on us, and helpful with any questions. Highly recommend for a family (5 of us plus a dog) as a cosy base to explore Donegal.

We arrived in Davey John's on a frosty but grey January Friday, but sitting in the hot tub watching the stars is honestly the best way to colour a grey day! The best way to start a new year! We had such a lovely time, the fire was cosy, the house warmed up quickly. We went to Downings beach for a walk with the dog, came back, lit the fire and the hot tub was already warmed and ready for us on our arrival! On the Saturday, we went to Carrigart beach, eat in the Galley in Downings, returned to the house, into the hot tub and the sauna is sooooo gooood! Great fun, really cosy and everything is there to make it a totally relaxing and fantastic stay. Forgot to mention the cinema experience which was also a great novelty! Loved everything about it - think I'll have to go back!

We had a lovely getaway over NYE at Davey’s Forge. Such a wonderful way to start the new year in nature, with plenty to do at the house. You could just stay here and now leave and have a wonderful escape - the hot tub, movie room, fireplace & sauna are such a treat. There is so much to do so close by too if you want to hike, walk by the sea, go to a little town like Downings… would absolutely return!

We had a great time at the cottage. The kids loved the jacuzzi which was always accessible and in great nick. The towls and bathrobes provided were brilliant. The cottage is a bit oddly shapped, some of the doors are small and especially upstairs the stairs and door is tiny to get into the bedroom. Not suitable for tall or older people. Shane can always be contacted and he responds immediately, thanks for that.We have not used the sauna which is shared with the 2 cabins but it looks great. Would recommend the cottage

A fabulous weekend in a beautiful home. Hot tub and sauna were gorgeous - view is stunning. The home was spotless and whilst dog friendly you’d never know there had been dogs staying! Only issue was no WiFi until our second night when someone came to fix it.

We had a lovely couple of days here with our 2 daughters. The house was cosy and felt really homely. Close to several beaches and attractions to visit. Our kids especially loved the projector for movie night. Would definitely recommend to friends and family!

We recently stayed in Davey Johns Forge and honestly, we couldn't have picked a better place! The cottage is gorgeous, so homely and welcoming. It is pet friendly and our two dogs loved it! The location is ideal to explore the many beaches and attractions along the the coast of Donegal.Of course the biggest highlight was definitely the hot tub and sauna! They were clean, well maintained and made the whole trip feel like a proper luxury break.The videos provided were very helpful for using the hot tub, sauna and projector and Shane would respond quickly to any messages we sent.Overall a lovely private spot, in a great location with fantastic amenities!We highly recommend Davey Johns Forge and will definitely be back!

We loved our stay for my dad’s 70th, the hot tub, sauna and cinema screen just made it extra special. The area is absolutely gorgeous with a short drive to surrounding villages. The host was so helpful, instructions were clear and detailed. He went out of his way to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. The cottage is just like the photos so we were not disappointed at all. Would definitely recommend ❤️

I booked a 2 night stay for myself, my sister and my dog so we got the cottage as it had 2 double bedrooms. The house felt like my granny's house with a lovely quaint and quirky feel about it! There's also 2 stunning cabins available here as well. All 3 spaces (2 cabins and 1 cottage) had their own hot-tub that was on, water was hot and ready to go on arrival which was fantastic. That and the sauna was what sealed the deal for me to come to Davey John's and neither disappointed! There was an abundance of towels and dressing gowns available and the kitchen in the cottage was fully stocked. Directions were crystal clear, infor for how to access the property was easy and we were left to our own devices which was lovely. Out host checked in via message a couple of times but honestly we needed for nothing! I highly recommend Davey Johns and will definitely return - hoping to stay in one of the cabins next time! Thanks for everything!!

We had the loveliest weekend staying here. We were given detailed information on how to check in/use the facilities in advance. The cottage itself was beautiful, the hot tub with the views of the water was a highlight. I would definitely recommend and hope to get back soon.

Super Fast & Free WiFi

With Fibre to the home we have some of the fastest internet speeds in Ireland. Last time I checked it was 465 mbps!

Free Parking

There’s plenty of parking at Davey John’s. Cottage guests can park right outside the door.

Bedroom Comforts

We have a King Size bed in the Attic room, Double bed on the ground floor. Both come with mattresses that are ‘Hotel Quality’. Fresh linen and towels are also provided.

Cottage Entertainment

The 32″ TV has terrestrial channels along with Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus. The ceiling mounted projector offers an awesome cinema experience for movie nights in.

Washer Dryer

The Cottage has a washer dryer and a portable clothes line if required.

Pets Welcome

As Dog lovers ourselves, pets are very welcome in the Cabin. We have a dog bed available and a cage if you need to pop out on your own.

Computer Station

iI you need somewhere to work there’s a dedicated work station in the downstairs bedroom.. You’ll have access to plenty of power sockets and the internet over a TP link.

Cycling, Golf and Water Sports

We have plenty of bike storage on site along with a set of Golf clubs and a Kayak if you’re feeling adventurous.

Horse Riding

We’e spoiled with two excellent riding schools within a 10 minute drive of Davey John’s. Carrigart Riding School and Ashfield Riding School are both great!

Full refund for cancellations up to 30 days before check-in. If booked fewer than 30 days before check-in, full refund for cancellations made within 48 hours of booking and at least 14 days before check-in. After that, 50% refund up to 7 days before check-in. No refund after that.
